In his artistic practice, Kurt Fritsche (*1995) deals with the topics of grief, loss and memory, their processual nature, and transformative potential. Often developed in collaborative settings, his work aims to function as a vehicle to navigate the observer through configurations of multiple pasts and futures folded into the political present. Using his biography as a starting point such as the post-GDR aesthetic of his upbringing or western consumer iconography of play and entertainment, he explores the intersections and dependencies of personal, collective and intergenerational storytelling. Kurt Fritsche works with various techniques, including installation, sculpture, photography, video and text, focusing on medium-specific qualities to articulate subjective relations to time, memory and oblivion. He lives and works in Berlin (DE).
